Rhoda (Commack) Eldred

February 12, 1957 ~ May 25, 2022 (age 65)

Obituary

Rhoda Eldred passed away on May 25, 2022. She was 65 years old and struggled with heart disease for many years with courage and grace and sometimes even stubbornness. Rhoda Nuiraaq (Commack) Eldred was born on February 12, 1957 in Shungnak, Alaska to parents James & Beulah Commack. She is the granddaughter of
Evan’s and Susie Commack and Martha Kiana and Herman Tickett

Rhoda fell in love and married Craig Eldred in 1984 and shared 16 years of marriage. The Eldred’s lived in various villages throughout Alaska (Shungnak, Buckland, Noatak and Kotzebue) all before relocating to the San Francisco Bay Area and settling in Novato, California - where she built a home amongst all of Craig’s books. In California, she was a homemaker and frequented the Rolling Hills Country Club for some rounds of tennis and some Vino with her girlfriends. That was one thing about Rhoda, she never had a hard time making friends.

Rhoda spent her prime years doing administrative work for Governor Jay Hammond and the Village of Shungnak’s IRA. All while being a rare and influential indigenous resource to the North West Arctic bilingual (Inupiaq + English) and early education programs. Rhoda took pride in her heritage and was often seen wearing beaded jewelry, accessories (tiny purses), atikluks, and parkas.

Rhoda relocated to Fairbanks, AK In 2001 and soon thereafter found her forever companion, David Meuli (who she teased the most). He was there for her when no one else was - and for that her family is grateful.

She had an endearing, SWEET, and loving presence and was unquestionably the humblest Sister and the most favorite Auntie. Giving wise and loving guidance and setting the highest of examples to all that she shined her loving light on. Her motherly instincts extended far beyond her immediate children. Rhoda showed deep empathy, care, and affection to all. Her most treasured moments was her time being as a mother and her time spent with her ‘uumaa’s’ (girlfriends) - those were her true soulmates in this world. Special shout-out to her sister Linda Morena who was always by her side and her number one partner in crime.

She enjoyed cross word puzzles, crocheting, puzzles, love for flowers, gardening, jewelry and inspirational quotes.

She is survived by her first daughter Jacqueline Allison of Tok, AK, her husband Olaf Allison II. and their son Olaf Will Allison III.; her former spouse Craig Eldred of Klamath River, CA; son George Eldred of Kotzebue, AK and his daughter Roxanne Thompson of Canby, OR; daughter Bridget Eldred (aka Jibby) of Los Angeles, CA; and youngest son Roy Ikiaq Commack Eldred (aka Rice) of Tiburon, CA; and lastly her longtime companion David Meuli of Fairbanks, AK.
