Patricia "Pat" Ann Silverton

March 25, 1944 ~ January 31, 2021 (age 76)

Patricia “Pat” Ann Silverton, age 76, passed away Sunday, January 31, 2021 at Caring Bridges Assisted Living in Fairbanks, Alaska.

Pat was born on March 25th, 1944 in Huntington, West Virginia to William Ira and Doris Haws. She grew up in Huntington and attended Ceredo-Kenova High School where she participated in many activities. She was the president of the Y-Teens, secretary of the Science Club, vice president of the Thespians, president of the Future Nurses of America, chaplain of the Inter-Club Council, a member of the MU Alpha Theta, Prep Club, senior band and majorette. She was editor of the school yearbook, a junior high cheerleader and prom queen. In her junior year she was the winner in the mathematics and physics division of the science fair. She graduated in 1962 and was very sought out by colleges for mathematics and physics. She decided to go to the University of Wyoming in Laramie, WY and attended for one year before moving to Fairbanks, Alaska.

After moving to Fairbanks, she worked at the Gilmore Tracking Station as a switchboard operator where she met Robert “Bob”. They were married on April 1, 1967 in the little white chapel on Ft. Wainwright, AK. In June 1967 there was an earthquake while Pat and Bob were at work. Bob found Pat attempting to keep the switchboard from falling over on her and helped her to protection until the earthquake was over. During the Fairbanks flood of 1967, Pat and Bob watched her wedding dress float away right in front of them among other cherished memories. There was never a dell moment with the two of them around.

Pat enjoyed volunteering in many organizations and charities during high school and as an adult. She was a member of the Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority and traveled to Memphis, TN in support of St Jude's Research Hospital several times; she was also a member of the Homemakers of America. When Pat and Bob started their family, they decided she would be a stay-at-home mom. As her children grew older and started to participate in youth sports, she attended all of their games, sitting in the bleachers cheering them on. Pat was the Team Mom for her son Sean’s competitive hockey teams from Squirt A’s through Midget A’s and traveled all over the US with them.

Pat was always available to help her family when needed. She took care of Bob when he was diagnosed with cancer in 1993 as they travelled back and forth to Anchorage for treatment and San Francisco for experimental treatments. She traveled to Anchorage and Texas on numerous occasions to visit and assist with her mother's care. She took care of her granddaughter Carissa until she was old enough to attend school. Pat was a natural caregiver.

After her husband Bob passed away in 1996, she went back to school and earned her Associates of Applied Science in Paralegal Studies in 1999 from the University of Alaska Fairbanks. She was very proud of her accomplishment after being out of school for over 30 years.

Pat will be missed by her mother Doris Haws; her daughter and son in law, Tami & Michael Leroux; her son, Sean Silverton; her sister and brother-in-law, Connie & Marcus Garringer; her brother and sister-in-law, Robert & Marquita Haws; her granddaughter and partner, Carissa Moses and Dustin Dodson; her younger granddaughters, Kali Shaw & Sheleigh Silverton; as well as numerous extended family and friends. Pat was preceded in death by her father, William Ira Haws, and her husband Robert “Bob” Silverton.

To the staff at Caring Bridges who became part of her family after living there for 3 years, thank you so much for giving her the loving care and environment for her final days. We could not have asked for a more perfect place for a peaceful passing. Thank you all for the work you do every day. Thank you to FMH Hospice Care for their swift and immediate response at all hours of the day or night, as well as Goldstar Longevity and Health for providing the personal healthcare Mom needed for the past year.
