Matthew Russell Hastings will always be remembered for his passion for the outdoors and his fun and witty sense of humor. We lost Matthew due to suicide on Monday, May 17th at the age of 15.
Matthew was born in Hood River, Oregon on June 21st, 2005. His family moved to Alaska in 2006 when he was 10 months old and Alaska is where his heart is. Matthew loved nearly everything outdoors. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Matthew attended Lathrop High School as a sophomore. After high school Matthew intended on joining the Army and had wanted to be a Ranger. He loved hanging out with his friends snowboarding, skateboarding, fishing, biking, 4 wheeling, working on vehicles, and playing video games.
Matthew was the son of Ryan and Tara Hastings. In addition to his parents he is survived by his sister Ashley Hastings and his brother Caden Hastings. He was the grandson of Harold "Skip" Hastings and Lori Heirman of Raymond, Washington, Denise Baxter and Arthur "Art" Hernandez of Stevenson, Washington, Lorrie Walton of Mossyrock, Washington, Dave Rosander of Athol, Idaho, and Juanita Cummings of Stevenson, Washington. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Matthew you will always be a part of our hearts forever and will take you with us wherever we go and honor you in all that we do. We love you!
A visitation will be held on Thursday, May 27th from 5-7PM at Blanchard Family Funeral Home; 611 Noble St. The burial will be held on Friday May 28th. At 10AM at Birch Hill Cemetery.
