Longtime Alaska resident Louie R. Petit, 90, passed away peacefully of natural causes on May 15, 2021, at Denali Center. Louie was born in Winter, Wisconsin, the 10th of 12 children, on January 23, 1931 to Marius and Mary (Miles) Petit.
He was raised on the family farm and went to school in Winter through the 8th grade. Life was tough and everyone worked hard to support the family. When he was old enough, he followed his brothers to Oregon and worked in the logging industry.
When he was 25 he moved to Two Harbors, Minnesota. There he met and married Karen Bark in 1957. They had 3 children Tim, Steven and Sandee and lived happily for 23 years on the north shore of Lake Superior. They were a close family and traveled together to many places and events for all of those years, all while working very hard.
Louie and Karen were later divorced, and Louie made the move to Fairbanks. There he put his trucks to wok on the Haul Road to Prudhoe Bay. Within a few years his children all joined him and fell in love with the Alaska life.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Louis (Timothy) Petit and his 5 brothers and 5 sisters.
Louie is survived by his children Steven (Lori), Sandee (Bob) Rooney, their children Hunter Rooney (Christina) and Dakotah Rooney, and 2 great granddaughters Michaela and Danica.
Our warmest thanks to the Denali Center Nurses, Doctors and all of the Staff for taking such good care of Louis in his last five months.
Louie was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all of his family and friends, but at his request there will be no services of funeral for him.
