Caroline (Mayo) Fabian, 98, passed away March 6, 2021, at her home in Fairbanks with family close by.
Caroline was born Jan. 24, 1923, in Rampart, Alaska, to Sally (Silver) and Leroy Mayo. She has resided in Fairbanks all her life.
She married Sgt. Charles A. Fabian on Sept. 12 1942, in Fairbanks, Alaska. Together they made it through World War II, being stationed in Alaska and Florida. After the war, they homestead on Bennett Road.
Her children will miss her: Nancy (Fabian) and Larry Jaschek, Janet (Fabian) Keirn, George and Gayla (Merriman) Fabian, Ronald Fabian, Alfred and Marilyn (Johnson) Fabian, and adopted daughter Marilyn Overpeck.
She was employed at several laundries in Fairbanks with her sisters, May and Audrey, until her husband retired from the Alaska Railroad. Mom, grandma, great-grandma, she will be missed by many. She was great at any game she played, especially Yahtzee.
Her grandfather Capt. Al Mayo was a riverboat captain and one the first explorers to come to Alaska. Her grandmother, Margaret, was a daughter of an Indian chief, as well as her great-grandmother.
She had 27 grandkids, 47 great-grandkids and 14 great-great-grandkids. She adore and loved them all.
Caroline was preceded in death by husband, Charles; son, Charles Jr.; parents, Leroy and Sally Mayo; grandparents; sons-in-law, Rex Keirn and Carl Overpeck; sisters, May Butler, Audrey Fowler, Alma and Jesse Taylor, Sally and Maurice Patrick; brothers, Troy Mayo, Winthrop and Virgie Mayo; and grandson, Troy Oliver; and many more on both sides of the family.
Graveside services by mother Betty will be at 1 p.m. May 29, 2021, at Birch Hill Cemetery. She will be buried by her husband. Pallbearers will be her grandsons Larry Jaschek Jr., Chris Jaschek, Eric Keirn, John Phlegar, George Fabian, Andy Fabian and alternate Philip Jaschek.
The potlatch will be at 6 p.m. at 769 Bennett Road at grandma's house. Both are sober events and Covid-safety mandated.
