Alice D Blakley, 92, passed away peacefully on the early morning of April 9, 2021. Alice was born on a trap line in Old Rampart where she grew up hunting, fishing and trapping alongside her father. In her early teens her family relocated to Fort Yukon where she lived until her mid-20s.
In 1958 Alice met Leon Blakley in Fairbanks while he was stationed at Ladd Air Force Base, now known as Fort Wainwright, and later married the love of her life in 1959.
In Alice’s downtime she enjoyed beadwork, which she was well known for her beautiful talented work. In the fall she always looked forward to blueberry and cranberry picking season and would spend many hours and days just to pick her winter supply, Alice’s greatest love was her grandchildren, never passing up an opportunity to spend many hours with them at their sporting events or just hanging out with them at home.
Alice is preceded in death by her parents, Charlotte and David John, her husband Leon Blakley, her children Matthew John and Elizabeth John, her siblings Florence, Marie, Peter and Elizabeth John.
Alice is survived by her children Rachel (Philip) Wood, and Stanley Blakely, her grandchildren Charlene (Andrew) Broome, Phillip “Chipper” (Traci) Wood, Bridget Wood, Jared Wood, and her great grandchildren Andrea and Alison Broome, Phillip “Tripp” and Mason Wood.
Services for Alice will be planned at a later date this summer in Fairbanks and then will be flown to Fort Yukon by family to be laid to rest.
