Ruth Evelyn Killian

November 3, 1934 ~ June 4, 2018 (age 83)

Ruth Evelyn Killian, “Gran”, age 83, of Healy, Alaska was welcomed to her heavenly home on June 4, 2018 after a time of declining health.  Her devotion to her family and her firm belief in God comforted her during this difficult time.

Gran was born on November 3, 1934 in Shickshinny, PA to Stanley and Alice Stuka.  She spent her childhood there and on May 7, 1951 married the love of her life, Elwood “Pap” Killian.  In June 1955, she headed north with their two young children to join Pap as he began a new job in Alaska.  They raised their family of six children in the Sutton area, moving to Healy in 1965 where they have been residents for the last 53 years.

Gran was active in her church and served there charitably; babysitting, baking and cleaning regularly along with her husband Pap.  They were often found at Tri-Valley School, cheering for their children’s and eventually grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s activities, concerts, dance programs, track meets, basketball, soccer, hockey and volleyball games.  Most people in the Healy community knew her as Gran, whether they were related or not, many not actually knowing her given name.  Her table was always open to stop in for a visit, and the coffee pot would be on -  usually accompanied by a tin of her delicious homemade fudge or cut out cookies.  Gran was very dedicated to her daily walks, loved being outdoors and was often found working in their yard and property.

Gran is survived by her husband, Pap; and together their legacy includes daughter Binky Graham and her husband Tony; son, Butch Killian and his wife Deb; son, Mike Killian; son, Scott Killian and his wife Judy; daughter, Joanne Kovach and her husband Kris; 18 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren with one on the way, and one great-great granddaughter.  Also surviving are her sisters Marie Antosh and Fran Sopka and numerous extended relatives and friends.    She was preceded in death by her daughter, Lisa Take; sister Helen Robbins; and brother, Stan Stuka.  Gran considered her family to be God’s greatest blessing of her life.

A memorial service will be held at 1 pm on Saturday, June 9, 2018 at In His Shadow Ministries, Mile 251 Parks Highway, in Healy.  A private graveside service will follow at Valley View Memorial Cemetery.  Pastors Tony and Binky Graham will officiate.  Sons Mike and Scott Killian, son in laws Tony Graham, Sr. and Kris Kovach, and grandsons Tony Jr. and Billy Graham will serve as pallbearers.  The family rejoices in the knowledge that their beloved Gran has passed the barrier of time as we know it and is forever at home with the Lord.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Fairbanks Rescue Mission, a charity dear to her generous heart.  Donations can be made online, or at PO Box 73250, Fairbanks, AK  99707-3250. Online condolences may be sent to the family at blanchardfamilyfuneralhome.com
