It is with profound sadness that the family of Phyllis M. Williams announces that she passed
away on August 3,2018 at the age of 78 due to renal failure. Phyllis was born on March 28,
1940 in Kansas City, Missouri.
Phyllis loved Alaska and had resided here for 54 years. She loved fishing, camping and playing
cribbage with her Comet Club Family.
She was known well in the Fairbanks community and loved by all she met for her cantankerous
and blunt personality. Phyllis wore many hats during her life: she worked on the flight line at
Elmendorf AFB as a cook; she was a diesel mechanic; a social worker who flew to remote
villages; a boisterous bartender at the Comet Club and a certified master gardener. Phyllis was a
generous person, giving selflessly to those in need. She loved embroidery, doing crossword and
jigsaw puzzles, as well as reading a good book.
Phyllis is survived by her daughter Tammy Thomas, her adopted daughter Tanis Edstrom,
grandson Jason Baurick, granddaughter Amanda Dickey and great granddaughter Ananya
Dickey as well as her Alaskan family and many friends and confidants who enriched her life and
whom she held very dear. She will be especially missed by the group of ladies with whom she
had lunch with several times per year.
A celebration of life will be held at the Big I,122 N. Turner Street on Wednesday, August 15,
2018 from 4:00 pm to?? Per her last wishes, she will be "propped up against the jukebox."
Please come to her celebration to meet Phyllis' family and bring your favorite dish, pictures and
memories to share.
