Josephine Marie Glein Scott Mills
I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day…. - 2 Timothy 4:7-8
Josephine, or Jo as her friends and loved ones called her, has been called home. Along with her crown of righteousness, she will be wearing sapphire blue silk, gardening gloves, dancing shoes and, as always, her amazing smile. A person who loved others as naturally as breathing, Jo will be missed; however, her multi-generational, intercontinental legacy of love will live on.
Josephine Marie Glein Scott Mills, 91, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on May 1, 2018 in Fairbanks, AK after an extended illness. Jo was born Aug. 11, 1926, in Pomona, California to Reverend Elsie and Mr. Henry Glein. Jo’s faith was rooted as she grew up in her mother’s pastorates in California and Washington. When her mother started Puyallup Church of the Nazarene in 1936, the first Sunday School class was held in her bedroom in the family house on Main Street.
Jo loved to tell stories about how she met and married Paul Scott of Ontario, OR. A war romance, they married Dec. 1, 1944 at Seattle First Church of the Nazarene. In their years together, they had five children, and lived in Corvallis and Ontario, OR, Richland, WA, Chicago, IL, and Sumner, WA. Paul passed away April 21, 1986.
After Paul’s death, Jo spent several years traveling, often to visit her family and loved ones spread across the globe. Jo was always an active member in her local Nazarene church, singing in the choir, serving on hospitality teams, and caring for everyone around her. She also loved to bowl, chat with her neighbors, and entertain in her home. She was wooed by and married Wilbert Mills on November 6, 1993. She always said she was blessed to have found such great love twice in her life. Wilbert passed away July 30, 2011.
Her sister Esther Johnson and her brother Robert Glein also precede her in death. She is survived by her five children and their spouses, Jon and Margaret Scott, of Normandy Park, WA, Candace (Ramsey) and Roger Bopp, of Yuma, AZ, and Linda and Michael Setterberg, Leslie and Jim Huffman and Cameron and Lisa Scott, all of Fairbanks, Alaska. She is also survived by her brothers, Richard Glein and Jay Johnson, brothers-in law, sister-in-law, step-children, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
The Celebration of Life for Jo will be held on May 23rd at 11:00am at Living Hope Church of the Nazarene, 20107 1st Ave. S, Normandy Park, WA. After a fellowship meal, a graveside service will be held in Sumner Cemetery, about 2:00 p.m. For further details contact Jon Scott(253) 202 9260.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests any gifts be made to New Beginnings Church for the Streams of Joy children’s home in India.
