Harry Bernard Niehaus, born March 14, 1945 in Philadelphia, PA to Harry H. and Maryanne Pearce, passed away December 24, 2018. Harry, along with his sister Cecilia Chmielowski, ventured to the Sourdough, AK area in the Fall of 1962. In 1963 a 3-year Army enlistment drew him out of state; however, he returned when stationed to Fort Richardson Army base choosing to make North Pole his lifelong home following an honorable discharge. The majority of Harry’s professional life was primarily steeped in carpentry which he artfully applied building his own home, but he also found time to delve into other areas of interest that impassioned him, including earning a Bachelor of Arts in education. Personally, Harry was a man of conviction in the teachings of the Catholic Church; therefore, he strove to live accordingly to said doctrine. His word on an agreement or promise was worth more than a signed contract.
Harry is survived by his beloved wife Phuong who has so lovingly held his hand for the past 12 years; his sister Bobbie Niehaus and brother, Eric; sons Henry Greg Niehaus, Henry Sergie Niehaus, Henry Michael Niehaus, and Cuong Tuan Tran; daughter Bobbie Ann Niehaus; and five grandchildren. He was predeceased by his sister, Cecilia Chmielowski and her husband, Bubsy who gave Harry five good Alaskan nephews.
