Suzanne Guinn

March 4, 1944 ~ January 8, 2018 (age 73)

Sue Guinn (Suzanne Yeomans Guinn) passed away January 8, 2018 at the Alaska
Pioneer's Home in Fairbanks. She and her husband Chris lived in Fairbanks for 50
years. Sue was a Speech Pathologist for the Fairbanks North Star Borough for 20
years and in private practice for another
18 years working with children with autism
and speech disabilities. She received degrees from Western Michigan University ('66)
and University of Wisconsin ('67)

Sue and Chris met in high school in Kalamazoo, Michigan and were married there in
1968 when they graduated from college. They came to Fairbanks shortly afterwards
when he was in the military. Fitting in as a military spouse in Alaska was new territory
for Sue but she adapted and was well respected for her accomplishments in the Dept. of

Defense school system.

She leaves behind her husband Chris and son Ian, both in Fairbanks. Sue had a love
of learning and helping children with disabilities. When she worked for the Borough
she was active in creating and administering
special education policies. In her private
practice she traveled to many Alaskan villages. Her career took an upturn when she
was selected as a Fellow of the American Speech and Hearing Association.

She had a love of Fairbanks and enjoyed her friends and colleagues. About two years
ago she entered the Alaska Pioneer Home with dementia. She got wonderful care
there. In her last days she was diagnosed with Alzheimer's In lieu of flowers the family
