John J. MegyesiAugust 23, 1932 ~ August 7, 2017 (age 84)
SFC (Ret) John Joseph Megyesi, Veteran of the United States Army and the Vietnam War, passed away August 7, 2017 at the age of 84 in Rochester, NY while recuperating from an injury.
John was born August 23, 1932, the son of Mary (Adam) and John J Megyesi of Toledo Ohio.
John was stationed on Ft Wainwright in 1961 and fell in love with Alaska. He continued his military career, waiting for day he could retire and return to Fairbanks. He worked and made many friendships at the State of Alaska, Bechtel, Sampsons Hardware, Jackovich Tractor and Supply and all-around town. John was involved in many Civic Activities, including the Golden Valley Electric throughout the years. He was a faithful member of the REACT club and an avid bowler. He missed his friends at the Artic Bowl and his Thursday lunch pals, Ray Womack and Jim Morman. Fairbanks was his home for over 45 years.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Nina (Bown) Megyesi, daughters Lesley (Mark) Carmack, Helena Boersma, son, John B (Heather) Megyesi. grandaughter, Emma Boersma, grandsons, Tyler Carmack, Conner (Anne) Carmack, DJ Megyesi, Hunter Megyesi, Scout Megyesi and great-grandson Lorenzo Carmack, nieces, Marcia Petersen, Janet Boyles, and Joan Goins, his dear cousins, Violet Rose (Maynart) Campbell, Ethel (Maynhart) Swanson and Louis (Mary) Maynhart. He was preceded in death by his sisters MaryAnn (Megyesi) Novak and Judith Megyesi
Visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. followed by funeral services at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 26, 2017 at Blanchard Family Funeral Home, 611 Noble St. 482-3232. Burial with military honors will follow at Birch Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Arctic Bowl for a reception following services.
